About Swedish State Railways

Swedish State Railways is a government agency that owns and manages locomotives and railway vehicles for train services. According to the Appropriation direction that controls activities, we shall manage and let railway vehicles to Rikstrafiken's operators of train services in a businesslike and efficient manner. Our assignments also include management of leasing and leasehold

commitments, and a number of other commitments which are being phased out. Read more in About Us.

The history of railways in Sweden goes back over 150 years, and today's Swedish State Railways is the result of the division of the government agency which was carried out in 2001, when six independent companies were formed and most

activities were transferred into the companies. The activities which were not transferred to any of the companies remain in present Swedish State Railways. Swedish State Railways comes under the Swedish Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications, and has five employees. The Director General is Lennart Dahlborg.
